A prestigious Level I Trauma Center and academic medical center in Morristown, NJ is seeking an accomplished Emergency Medicine Department Chair to lead a high-volume Adult & Pediatric Emergency Department.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced physician leader with a strong background in Emergency Department operations, academic Emergency Medicine, residency education, and hospital leadership.

Position Highlights

• $575,000–$625,000 Total Compensation
• ➕ Additional Administrative Leadership Stipend
• 48–72 clinical hours/month , with remaining time dedicated to administrative leadership

Leadership Responsibilities

The Department Chair will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the entire Adult and Pediatric Emergency Departments , including:

• Lead clinical and operational strategy for the Emergency Department
• Drive quality, patient safety, efficiency, and throughput initiatives
• Oversee the academic mission, including residency and fellowship programs
• Collaborate with hospital departments and senior executive leadership
• Partner directly with the C-suite and hospital administration
• ‍⚕️ Support physician recruitment, engagement, retention, and development
• Promote clinical excellence and a culture of accountability
• Provide vision and strategic direction for the future growth of Emergency Medicine
• Represent Emergency Medicine in hospital and medical staff leadership

Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a proven Emergency Medicine leader who brings:

• ✅ Board Certification in Emergency Medicine – ABEM or AOBEM
• ✅ Emergency Medicine residency training
• ✅ Eligibility for a New Jersey medical license
• ✅ Approximately 15 years of ED Director and academic Emergency Medicine experience
• ✅ Significant experience leading a high-volume Emergency Department
• ✅ Strong clinical, operational, and administrative leadership skills
• ✅ Experience with residency education and academic Emergency Medicine
• ✅ Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
• ✅ Ability to effectively partner with physicians, hospital leadership, and the C-suite

⏰ Start Date

Candidate should be available to begin as soon as credentialing is completed , anticipated to take approximately 3–4 months for hospital privileges.

Compensation Package

• $575,000–$625,000 Total Compensation
• ➕ Additional Administrative Leadership Stipend
• Start-date bonus paid upon commencement
• 24-month clawback period applies to the start bonus

Requirements

• Board Certified in Emergency Medicine – ABEM or AOBEM
• Emergency Medicine Residency Trained
• New Jersey Medical License required/obtainable
• ‍⚕️ 15 years of ED Director & Academic Emergency Medicine experience
• Experience leading a high-volume Emergency Department
• Strong academic leadership experience, including residency/fellowship oversight
• Proven experience with ED operations, quality, and throughput
• Ability to collaborate with hospital leadership, medical staff, and C-suite executives
• ⏰ Available to start as soon as credentialing is completed (approximately 3–4 months)
• Able to work approximately 48–72 clinical hours per month , with remaining time dedicated to administrative responsibilities
